2. How Wolbachia Works
Male mosquitoes infected with the naturally occurring Wolbachia bacteria are sterile. When they mate with wild females, the eggs fail to hatch, causing the local mosquito population to collapse.
3. Proven Success Track Record
Google has quietly run this program since 2017 in Fresno with robots producing a million mosquitoes weekly. Singapore's similar program achieved over 70% reduction in dengue risk in treated areas.
4. EPA Review and Implementation
The EPA is currently reviewing the request. If approved, 16 million mosquitoes will be deployed across a two-year period in each targeted state.
